1. When was the eco club formally constituted in our school?? In the late 90s. 2. Since when have you been heading the eco club? For more than 6 years 3. What are the different activities that take place in the Club? There are many types of activities that take place in our Eco Club: like Paper Recycling, different Rallies, Tree Plantation Acts, Nature Trails, etc. 4.How many students are members of the club? More than 60 members from the 6th, 7th & 8th standard, and at an average, 3- 4 members from a class. Also about 8-10 members from the 9th standard do participate in this club. 5. Do you think that being a member of the club has benefitted the students? Oh Yes, for sure it has benefitted all the students. 6.If yes, then how??Give examples. It is just through the medium of this club that the kids have become more eco-friendly & sensitive towards their Earth. They are now even capable of educating others that what should be done in future to save our Earth & in fact, they’ve even started doing so. 7. How would you rate the progress of the club? This Club is progressing by leaps & bounds. Every new session brings a new set of environment lovers who willingly join the Eco Club & result in being a dedicated member… 8.What are the highlights of the club?? In our school, we have an animal sort of structure called the Rolly Polly, which has 4 chambers which, when are filled with the biodegradable waste collected from the school, anaerobically composts that waste into manure which is used by the plants in our school itself. We think that it is one of the highlights of our club. Also, the Nature Trails for which the kids are taken to various places like the President’s Estate are also the highlight of the club. 9.As educators, have you benefitted being a member of the club? We have both definitely benefitted being a member of this club as being a part of such an active eco club helps us inculcate the feelings for nature in our other students automatically while teaching as well. 10. Any future plans??? In our nearest future, we are planning to set up a Rainwater Harvester & a Solar Panel if possible in our school building. 11. Your message to all students of SMS… Our only message to all the St. Markians is that they should reduce their Carbon footprints and else, Be Green, Do Green & Go Green …
